Thanks to church Staff and wonderful volunteers, along with Group Publishing, for another great VBS. Crocodile Dock rocked at St. Paul's with 111 children, our biggest group yet. About 1/4 did not list a church affiliation--how can we best invite them to deeper involvement in our community of faith?

Hi, Melissa
ReplyDeleteGreat idea - the blog, I mean. (VBS was a good idea too!)
Since your office is right next to mine you'd think we would have had conversations about these things alreay. But, reality being what it is (how's that for profound - reality being what it is??!!), the most important questions sometimes get drowned out by the day to day operating needs of the organization. So, with this blog, we can ask the questions and take the time to ponder. And in doing so, it occurs to me that one simple yet perhaps effective way of building on an effective VBS would be for me to call the families of those 1/4 without a church affiliation and ask them if they had a good experience, etc. Hopefully a very non-threatening kind of call, but one which might lead to a deeper conversation at some point. What do you think?
Okay - now I'll see if this comment gets posted. It's my first time responding to a blog!

I think calling the families would be a great idea. Many, but not all, have a prior preschool affiliation, so you might have some previous relationship to build on. I will pass on to you the contact info.
